Ricky martin - The cup of life(music video)
Description
"The Cup of Life" is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer, Ricky Martin that was included on his fifth album, Ricky Martin (1999). In 1998 (see 1998 in music), Martin released the song as a CD single, his second in the United States. The song's success was a step up from his last single, "María", peaking at #45 on The Billboard Hot 100 chart. Close followers of Martin may have noticed that "The Cup of Life" was not a new song, but simply a translation of the song "La Copa de la Vida," a track included on his fourth album, Vuelve. The 1998 translation of the song gained instant popularity, being the official song of the 1998 FIFA World Cup. This version of the song was also used in the AQA GCSE music exam on the 18th May, 2007.

"María" is a song recorded by Puerto Rican singer Ricky Martin for his third album, A Medio Vivir (1995). In 1996 (see 1996 in music), Martin released the song as a CD single, his first in the United States. The song had great success on the Hot Latin Tracks airplay chart, peaking at #6, which coincided with the CD single sales to place him at #88 on The Billboard Hot 100. Martin later revamped fans' familiarity with the song by including it on the 1999 release of the self-titled album, Ricky Martin. The song became the main theme of the Brazilian telenovela Salsa e Merengue in 1996 and was very well received from the Brazilian Airplay. The song was written for a Puerto Rican love-interest Ricky Martin met on one of his tours, a "Maria" Santiago.
"Maria" is also a Mexican term for cocaine. Listening to the lyrics and watching the video leads you to understand his former addictions he had fought in recovery in Mexico.
