Description
"What Made You Say That" is a song by Canadian singer Shania Twain. It was the first single ever released by Twain, as it came off her 1993 album Shania Twain. The song was written by Tony Haselden and Stan Munsey, Jr. The single was released to radio in February of 1993. The song wasn't much of a hit, but it did garner some attention because of its controversial-at-the-time video. Twain had the chance to perform the song at the 1993 Canadian Country Music Awards. The song also helped her win the Rising Star award in 1993, from CMT Europe.
The music video for "What Made You Say That" was shot at Miami Beach, Florida and directed by Steven Goldmann. It was filmed on January 12, 1993 and released on February 5, 1993. The video featured Twain dancing around on the beach, exposing her belly button, this was one of, if not, the first time so much skin was revealed in a country music video. Twain was also even referred to as the "Madonna" of Country music. It was originally banned by CMT but after the controversy died down, it was re-added. The amount of skin Twain showed is not uncommon in a majority of music videos today.
Lyrics
Maybe tonight I'm gonna tell him how I feel
Maybe I'll leave well enough alone
Maybe, just maybe, he'll want to be my baby
What if he's got plans of his own
I'm waiting for the perfect moment
Looking for the perfect phrase
The one I finally choose is simply "I Love You"
As the words came out I heard a voice inside me say
What made you say that
Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes
What made you say that
Have you been listening to your heart
It's too late now, you don't want to take it back
'Cause I know love's what made you say that
I look up to see his reaction
And a smile slowly spread across his face
He said, "What took you so long
That's what I've been waiting on
I thought you'd take forever and a day"
What made you say that
Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes
What made you say that
Have you been listening to your heart
It's too late now, I won't let you take it back
'Cause I know love's what made you say that
What made you say that
Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes
What made you say that
Have you been listening to your heart
It's too late now, I won't let you take it back
'Cause I know love's what made you say that
Was it the moonlight, was it the starlight in your eyes
What made you say that
Have you been listening to your heart
What made you say that
What made you say that
What made you say that....
